I am recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner for a Staines-based courier company. The successful candidate will join a small office-based team and will be responsible for route and transport planning, as well as liaising with customers and managing fleet. This is a permanent, full-time position working 45 hours per week from 7am-5pm, Mon-Fri, plus 1 hour lunch break. The opportunity for flexible working is also available to candidates who may wish to start & finish later.
Main Duties:
- Route Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule vehicle routes, ensuring timely collections/deliveries and clear communication of instructions to drivers.
- Provide Quotations: Prepare quotations for domestic and European collections/deliveries, liaising with third-party companies as needed.
- Customer and Supplier Liaison: Communicate with customers, drivers, and suppliers via telephone, email, and face-to-face interactions. Maintain and build strong relationships with clients.
- Delivery Monitoring: Track deliveries from start to finish, addressing any queries or issues that arise and ensuring resolution.
- Vehicle Fleet Management: Ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained on schedule, investigating and rectifying any defects promptly. Conducting basic stock checks.
- Cost Saving and Negotiation: Demonstrate proven ability in cost saving and negotiating rates.
- Out of Hours Calls: Handle out-of-hours calls on a rotational basis (1 in 3 weeks).
Required Experience:
- Freight Handling: Specific experience in the road and/or air-freight industry.
- Domestic Transport Planning: 2 years' experience in a transport planner role with experience in scheduling drivers and vehicles.
- Pressure Management: Ability to cope with pressure and work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- IT Skills: Good IT skills with knowledge of Office and Outlook.
- Out of Hours Calls: Can-do attitude and happy to handle out-of-hours calls on a rotational basis (1 in 3 weeks).
- UK Driving License - essential
