Reporting to and assisting the Group Financial Controller, the General Accountant will involve aspects of both management accounts and financial reporting.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will be based on shifting requirements in the team and therefore an adaptable, proactive and initiative lead approach is required.
Alongside the accounts team, the General Accountant responsibilities will include production of monthly management accounts for all group entities, including:
- Preparing and posting of journals, and review of journals prepared by Accounts Assistants, such as intercompany journals, accruals and prepayments, depreciation/amortisation and corporation tax journals.
- Review postings to purchase and sales ledgers and coding in the nominal ledger.
- Control of revenue recognition for all revenue streams, including imports into the accounts system, adjustments for accrued and deferred income and bad debt provisions.
- Review cashbook and bank reconciliation process. o Preparation and review of Balance sheet reconciliations. o Review of the Fixed Asset Register and other capitalised items.
- Variance analysis against budget and prior months and assisting in the provision of commentary for board packs.
- Assist in the review and authorisation of monthly employee expenses, including delivery of expenses inductions for new starters.
- Assist in the preparation of transfer pricing schedules for group companies as required.
- Assist in the preparation and authorisation of supplier payment runs and monitor cash flow and ageing of ledger balances.
- Liaison with Group banking providers to overcome operational issues as they arise.
- Assist in the production of drafts of statutory accounts for all group entities, including preparing and posting of year end journals, and drafting disclosures for statutory accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of group consolidations.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated cash flow statements.
- Liaising with external auditors for statutory audit and assist other areas of the business with preparing information for similar purposes.
- Assist with the preparation of budget and forecast models, including some element of business partnering with operational departments.
- Assist with preparation of data for regulatory filings (e.g. FCA returns) and other reporting requirements
- Reviewing monthly accounts transactions for the accuracy of VAT treatment and preparation of quarterly Group VAT returns
- Assist with gathering data for review by external tax teams.
- Support Group Financial Controller in other adhoc duties eg data analysis for special projects or enhancement/development of Group finance software.
Experience, skills and qualifications:
- Fully qualified accountant, preferably ACA or ACCA.
- Be passionate and demonstrate behaviours in line with the Company's ethos, vision, and key principles.
- Experience of key accounting principles, and the preparation of monthly management and full statutory accounts.
- Experience in preparation of accurate and timely regulatory reporting of both financial and non-financial information.
- Competent and experienced in the use of Microsoft Excel (including the use of sumifs, lookups, pivot tables etc).
- Good working knowledge and understanding of Access Financials accounting system.
- Knowledge of the UK tax reporting regime, principally VAT reporting and Corporation Tax.
- High degree of attention to detail with the ability to self-review and error-check work to ensure accuracy.
- Organised and adaptable with a strong work ethic.
- Able to work to deadlines and independently plan workloads.
- Excellent communication skills, ambitious, hard-working and diligent team player, keen to learn and develop new skills.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of Access Financials accounting system.
- Experience of the Financial Services industry reporting requirements desirable
