The Company
We are working with a market leader who are experiencing significant growth. They have a clear path for future company growth and as such are looking to add a Transport Manager to their team at their brand new 60,000 sq ft Worcester depot, managing a team of 80-90 staff when fully staffed.
You will be joining a team of experienced industry professionals with a chance to progress your career within a growing business with an excellent brand reputation. This role gives a chance for someone to lead the Transport function of a blue chip organisation.
The Transport Manager Role
Lead the day to day transport operations activities ensuring that contractual obligations of our customers are achieved, relationships are built and maintained and the delivery of this is within budget and meet legal/ compliance requirements. Actively working as part of the site management team, you will be leading the transport team effectively with your excellent communication skills, and driving the team to reach and maintain a high performance. Where there are issues identified, conducting root cause analysis. To deputise for the Line Manager in their absence on request. Attending morning meetings and acting as point of contact.
Key Responsibilities for the Transport Manager
- To assist in the production of key performance indicators relating to the Transport Department as required by the Head of Operations/ GM, ensuring that the necessary people, equipment, processes and support are in place to enable the delivery of these service levels.
- Assist in the planning and control all resources within the team to ensure costs are within agreed budgets.
- Lead all areas of the Transport department to achieve service excellence to the highest standards, exceeding where possible
- Ensure delivery of excellent customer service and maintain excellent relationships both internally and externally.
- Control and maintain all company equipment, including vehicles, to a high standard to ensure all relevant records are maintained in order to conform within all ministry legislation.
- Maximise vehicle efficiency to minimise costs in terms of kilometres travelled and KPI's and costs in line with budgets.
- Working with the fleet department and the site QHSE Manager, to ensure all policy and procedure is in place and up to date and all drivers up to date on all aspects of their training, including health and safety, SSOW and food standards.
- Ensure daily health & safety checks are completed and all drivers defects reports are completed, checked and actioned daily. Ensure all accidents and near misses are investigated in full detail, in a timely manner, and take actions to prevent a re-occurrence. Promote health & safety best practices and employee wellbeing.
- Ensure all drivers are supported to meet all legal requirements of their role including maintenance of all documentation relating to tacographs, drivers hours, working time directive and infringements associated to these. To inspect regularly and take action as required if irregularities occur.
- To ensure that all drivers are adequately inducted and fully understand the requirements of their role and with support have a clear understanding of the expectations of their role to deliver service excellence. Take action to remedy if necessary.
- To ensure that all transport department employee's are appraised in accordance with company requirements and meet all their compliance standards as required.
As the Transport Manager you will ideally you will be/have:
- National CPC holder is essential.
- Previous experience of being a site O License holder is preferable.
- Proficient in IT and ability to use Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams, with excellent people management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to fully understand budget and financial targets.
- Evidence of managing and driving change, in situations constantly requiring adaptation.
- Experience of supporting the supervision/management of a transport department ensuring optimum efficiency and effectiveness
- Experience of multi-drop, multi-temperature foodservice business preferable.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate large teams, with excellent people management skills.
- Work collaboratively and influence to build strong, trusting relationships with peers and other business departments.
- Evidence of creative and innovative thinking.
- Solid judgement and influencing skills to provide impetus to get things delivered.
