Job Overview:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in providing tailored support to students, working closely with the Class Teacher to ensure each child has the opportunity to succeed. You will assist in delivering individualised education plans, supporting students with their learning, personal development, and engagement in school activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Class Teacher to deliver engaging lessons and support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Adapt tasks and instructions to suit students’ individual needs, ensuring they remain engaged and on track.
  • Support students during various activities, including classroom lessons, recreational activities, and off-site educational visits.
  • Promote and encourage positive behavior, helping students to develop their social and emotional skills.
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom resources and maintain a safe, tidy learning environment.
  • Supervise students during break times and other non-structured activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Support the personal care needs of students where necessary, maintaining their dignity and comfort.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and recording of student progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents/carers.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers, fostering trust and collaboration.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs in a school or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and strategies to support students effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above).

Desirable Skills:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience working in a specialist school or with SEN students.
  • Knowledge of behavior management strategies such as Team Teach.
  • First Aid certification.
  • A driving license is highly desirable.
