We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated tutor to support a Year 9 learner in an alternative provision setting. The learner has been out of formal education for almost a year and requires a tailored, nurturing approach to help them re-engage with learning.

Key Details:

  • Location: Boston, Lincolnshire
  • Frequency: 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday
  • Hours: 10 hours per week
  • Duration: Ongoing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subject Support: Provide personalised support in English, Maths, Science, History, Home Economics, and Life Skills.
  • Creative and Therapeutic Activities: Facilitate engagement in animal therapy, arts and crafts, and yoga to build resilience and promote emotional well-being.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Learning: Balance structured academic support with interactive, hands-on activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Routine and Structure: Help establish a consistent daily routine to create a sense of stability and minimise the learner's discomfort with change.
  • Social Skills Development: Support the learner in developing communication and relationship-building skills, with sensitivity to their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

    Learner Profile:

  • Diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, and SEMH needs, as well as OCD and Anxiety.
  • Finds social situations challenging, struggles to communicate effectively, and often avoids eye contact. When overwhelmed, may stutter and become embarrassed.
  • Struggles to engage with both adults and peers, often redirecting conversations to preferred topics.
  • Prefers to feel in control and may demonstrate verbal unkindness when experiencing frustration.
  • Has a poor working memory and limited concentration span due to ADHD.
  • Requires significant emotional support to manage anxiety and build confidence.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Patience and Understanding: Sensitive to the learner’s challenges, especially in social situations and when handling embarrassment or frustration.
  • Creative and Flexible Approach: Able to adapt learning activities to the learner's interests and needs while maintaining a consistent routine.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Capable of gently guiding conversations and fostering engagement.
  • Resilience and Positivity: Encouraging a growth mindset and resilience through yoga, mindfulness, and therapeutic activities.

This role requires someone who can build trust and foster a safe, supportive learning environment to help the learner overcome barriers, regain confidence, and develop both academically and socially.
