The National Trust is renowned for its food and hospitality. We run 185 cafes, tea-rooms and restaurants all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we'd love you to join us.

We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant. In this role, you’d be making a real difference to the work of the National Trust, as well as helping to give people a memorable day out.

Hours: This role is an hourly paid, fixed term position. Wherever possible, we aim to offer a consistent working pattern, but we're looking for flexibility as it may be necessary for us to alter this pattern from time to time to suit the needs of the business. We'd give you as much notice of this as possible. You'll be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays, however, there are no evenings or split shifts. 

Salary: £11.50 per hour

Duration: Fixed term contract until 07-Sep-2025

Interview date: 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 29th January

Internally you'll be known as a 'Food & Beverage Team Member'.

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

You'll be working across all of the Food and Beverage outlets within the park walls café, restaurant and ice cream parlour. On the wider estate, there are 20 farms, 100 cottages, a golf course and an award winning housing development. The house, garden and parkland hide many layers of history and have many stories to tell.

As a Kitchen Team Member your focus will be in the kitchen, helping to prepare and present delicious food from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Using the framework of our ‘National Trust Cookbook’, you’ll prepare, measure and mix ingredients. You’ll help with deliveries and with keeping the kitchen clean, to be compliant with health and safety legislation and to make sure that service runs smoothly.

You’ll always keep the standards of food and drink preparation and presentation high. Using your excellent eye for detail, you’ll make sure all displays and signs are accurate and looking good. At times, you may need to support front of house colleagues.

We’ll give you an induction that fits the job, and training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you in your role. You can sign up for further professional training and development if you wish.
