Lab Technician

Do you have laboratory experience with a good working knowledge and understanding of technical and scientific practices and procedures? Do you have good organisational and communication skills? If so, Signature Recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Technician at a prestigious London university’s Teaching Lab. This is a temporary, full-time position based on campus. It has an immediate start for five weeks.

In this role as Lab Technician, you will be instrumental in preparing and managing laboratory setups for practical classes, ensuring students have everything they need for a successful learning experience. You will work with a team of technicians, line managed by a Senior Technician. You will have a good understanding of health and safety regulations and the impacts of laboratory work.

Lab Technician Key Responsibilities:

• Working under the guidance of a Senior Lab Technician, to prepare and set up labs for practical classes, including experiments
• Help with setting up and clearing out the lab, to include the washing up of glassware, using glassware washer, drying in cabinet and returning to lab
• Assisting students during lab activities and practical assignments and providing support and assistance, signposting as necessary
• Maintaining facilities and ensuring efficient use of resources - stocks/store, equipment, and other supplies - refilling chemicals as instructed
• Reporting any accidents or incidents to the supervisor
• Other administrative and practical tasks as required in order to ensure the smooth running of the Teaching Lab with a strong awareness of Health & Safety regulations, particularly relating to laboratory waste disposal and recycling

Lab Technician Key Skills:

• Experience of practical education in a teaching lab as a student or technician with an understanding of working in a Lab with health and safety protocols
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to put students at ease, encourage inquiry, and adapt to new situations
• Highly punctual, with good organisational skills to confidently manage day-to-day tasks with a personable and enthusiastic manner
• A flexible and proactive approach to assist in the smooth running of the Lab, classes and student experience
