SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in Cwmbran. The school boasts fantastic education facilities, including sensory and breakout rooms, rooms facilitating personal care including hoists and a therapy pool. Additionally Older pupils currently run a community kitchen from the school where they can participate in cooking and retail roles.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the head teacher and class teachers.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programs for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills, particularly focusing on ASD pupils.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant or similar role.
  • Understanding of the needs of students with special educational needs, including specific strategies to support ASD pupils.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A patient, caring, and adaptable manner to deal with students with different educational needs in a sensitive manner.
  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is preferred.
