Operations Director
Holroyd Precision Ltd. is seeking an experienced Operations Director to oversee and drive efficiency across our production, procurement, design, software & controls, and new product development (NPD) teams. This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on leader with a deep understanding of machine tool manufacturing and the intricacies of high-value, heavy machine design, manufacture, and delivery. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a key role in optimising operations to ensure the timely delivery of our world-class engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Oversight: Support and direct the manager of manufacturing in leading the production team, managing resources, optimising processes, maximising efficiency, controlling costs, and instilling high standards of quality across machine tool manufacturing.
- Procurement and Supplier Management: Oversee the procurement strategy, build strong supplier relationships, and negotiate contracts that support timely, high-quality materials delivery for production.
- Design and Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with the design and engineering manager to ensure product designs are robust, manufacturable, and aligned with customer specifications and production capacities.
- New Product Development (NPD): In collaboration with the NPD manager drive the development and successful launch of new products, ensuring they meet market demands and company growth objectives.
- Software and Controls Management: Support and direct the manager of software and controls, ensuring seamless integration with manufacturing processes and advancing the company's automation and digital initiatives.
- Group Collaboration: Work with HPL sister companies in China on various internal projects including NPD and supply chain initiatives.
Required Experience - Substantial experience in operations management within the UK’s machine tool manufacturing or a related high-precision engineering sector.
- Comprehensive understanding of high-value heavy machinery design, manufacture, and the end-to-end delivery process.
- Proven track record of effectively leading cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and engineering.
Key Skills - Leadership & Collaboration: Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster teamwork and align departments towards common goals.
- Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and execute operational strategies in line with business objectives.
- Problem-Solving & Optimisation: Strong analytical skills to identify areas for process improvements and implement solutions.
- Financial Acumen: Budget management experience, with the ability to assess and understand financial statements.
- Lean Manufacturing & Quality Management: Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is highly desirable.
