The Falkland Islands Government provides a wide range of vital services to a community of just over 3,500 residents. The Health & Social Services Department is central to the delivery of high-quality, patient cantered care. In our modern hospital, we offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services, ensuring that even in a remote location, our residents have access to excellent medical support.


The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Midwife to join our multidisciplinary team. This role offers a rare opportunity to practice midwifery in a unique environment, supporting a close-knit community with tailored care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to mothers and babies.
  • Conduct health assessments, screenings, and diagnostic services.
  • Deliver health education and advice to promote family well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare colleagues to ensure the best outcomes.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and adhere to professional standards.
  • Participate in on-call duties and respond to emergencies as required.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the improvement of maternity services.


The Package:

  • A base salary of £35,274 - £43,564 (Depending on experience and qualifications) plus enhancements for unsocial hours and on-call.
  • A market supplement to salary of £13,000 to £15,000 per year (reviewable annually)
  • A gratuity (lump sum payment) on completion of the contract term equivalent to 25% of the total base salary value of the contract.
  • A relocation allowance to help with moving costs.
  • Free flights for the employee and dependants at the beginning and end of the contract plus additional annual return flights after the first year.
  • Paid leave of 41 days comprising 30 days of annual leave and 11 days of public/government holidays.
  • Good quality furnished accommodation at reasonable rental rates.


The Ideal Candidate

You are a compassionate and adaptable midwife who thrives in diverse settings. Your skills and commitment to excellence ensure every patient feels supported and valued. About you:

  • Current registration as a midwife with a recognised regulatory body.
  • Minimum of two years of post-qualification experience.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional development.
  • Experience in remote or rural healthcare settings is desirable.
  • Advanced training in emergency or high-risk obstetric care is desirable.

The Health and Social Services Department is one of the Directorates of the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) which offers a range of fulfilling job opportunities across the full spectrum of public services.
