Setting: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Key Stage: KS3 (ages 11-14)

About Us:
We are a supportive and dynamic Pupil Referral Unit in Tower Hamlets, committed to re-engaging students who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Our KS3 pupils require a creative, passionate, and patient teacher who can inspire them to discover and develop their artistic potential.

The Role:
We are looking for an experienced or newly qualified Art Teacher who:

  • Can deliver engaging and accessible art lessons tailored to KS3 pupils with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Uses art as a tool to build self-esteem, foster creativity, and encourage positive self-expression.
  • Can establish a safe and inclusive learning environment, promoting respect and collaboration among pupils.
  • Works effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants and pastoral staff, to support students' learning and well-being.
  • Adapts lesson plans to incorporate therapeutic approaches and ensure inclusivity for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess creative and stimulating art lessons.
  • Support pupils to develop technical skills and explore various media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
  • Identify individual learning needs and provide differentiated support.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the PRU by taking part in cross-curricular projects and school events.
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour while managing challenging situations with patience and empathy.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching art to KS3 pupils (experience in a PRU or similar setting is advantageous).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by students in alternative provision and a commitment to their success.
  • A passion for using art to support personal growth and resilience.
