A SEN teaching assistant is needed for special educational needs (SEN) school in North London for students aged 11-19.

As a SEN teaching assistant, you will be supporting students with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties (SLD & PMLD) and/or physical disabilities (PD).

As a SEN teaching assistant, you will be working closely alongside the teacher or with small groups or individual students.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Working with and supporting students with SLD, ASD and other complex needs.
  • Using alternative communication techniques, such as PECs and Makaton, to communicate with students who are non-verbal.
  • A willingness to provide personal care, including toileting, changing and feeding, where required.
  • Providing academic support, either one-on-one or in a small group.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture and providing emotional support when needed.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage focus and self-control.
  • Assisting with lesson planning and delivery.
  • Being aware of safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • The right to work in the UK.

  • Experience working as a SEN teaching assistant.
  • Willingness to do personal care.
