Overview
A respected Legal 500 firm is seeking a Partner to lead its Court of Protection team. This full-service, medium-sized firm is known locally for delivering high-quality, client-focused legal services to individuals and businesses. The successful candidate will join a team of 3, handling mental capacity law, including Deputyship applications, administration of Deputyships, statutory Wills, gifting, and property and affairs advice.
The Role
As the Partner/Team Leader of the Court of Protection team, you will oversee strategic and business planning, marketing, and business development, while managing staff recruitment, training, and compliance in collaboration with HR. You will lead monthly one-to-ones and team meetings, attend HoD and partnership strategy meetings, and produce quarterly reports. Additional responsibilities include handling complaints, mentoring, and delivering in-house training. You will maintain a personal caseload, advising clients on Court of Protection issues, disputes concerning LPAs and Deputyships, and acting as a professional Deputy. Administrative tasks include managing client data through the PMS, liaising with various parties, organising meetings, preparing documents, and updating records. You will also handle billing, claims for costs, and accounts procedures.
Who
The ideal candidate will be a Law Society Mental Capacity Panel member, a qualified solicitor or CILEx professional, and a professional Deputy with extensive Court of Protection experience. They should have a strong track record of managing a team, handling chargeable work, and overseeing their own caseload, along with knowledge of CoP and SCCO billing procedures. Proficiency in computer use is essential.
