Overview: 
We are looking for a Software Level 4 Apprentice to join our development team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain software solutions for calibration systems. This is a hands-on position ideal for individuals with a passion for coding and an eagerness to learn. 

You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, contributing to projects that enhance the performance and reliability of our calibration systems.

Location: Met Cal House, Fisher St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 4LT

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, test, and maintain software for calibration tools and systems.
  • Write efficient, clean, and maintainable code using C++ or Python.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand calibration requirements and translate them into software solutions.
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues in a timely manner.
  • Document software designs, processes, and user guides.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies related to software development and calibration.

What we are looking for: 
Desired skills and qualities: 

  • Basic understanding of programming concepts and experience with either C++ or Python.
  • Problem-solving mindset with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for learning and a proactive attitude.

Experience: 

  • Familiarity with software development tools such as IDEs, version control systems (e.g., Git), and debugging tools. 
  • Exposure to software for hardware integration or scientific applications -- is a plus, but is not required. 

Entry requirements: 

  • The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider
  • OR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR 2 years’ experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test

Salary: 
£18,000 per annum.
