Are you an experienced Behaviour Mentor with proven experience of building relationships with students and re-engaging them into education and school life?

If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you! 

Milk Education are working in partnership with a SEMH Pupil Referral Unit who cater for young people with SEMH difficulties in Newham who are seeking to appoint an experienced Behaviour Mentor. The role will involve supporting KS4 to KS5 students who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning due to SEMH needs and underprivileged backgrounds.

The ideal candidate will support students on either a 1:1 or small group basis. You will be able to provide good behaviour management and keep students on track.

Behaviour Mentor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils to develop resilience, independence, and emotional regulation, both learning in lessons and forming positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Responsible for analysing behaviour data so that patterns of behaviour can be identified and the correct preventative support can be put in place.
  • Manage day to day on call behaviour incidents around the school, with the support from the senior leadership team
  • Establish positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils with activities which support their social and emotional development and promote good mental health.
  • Support pupils to engage and make progress with literacy, numeracy skills and foundation subjects.
  • Work with teachers, support staff, families, and where necessary external agencies to develop a solution focused approach to meeting SEMH needs, enabling learners to regulate their emotions and make good progress.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of Individual Behaviour Plans and Risk Assessments for designated pupils.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

The successful Behaviour Mentor will:

  • Have proven experience working with pupils with SEMH / SEN in a school or alternative provision
  • Have the ability to differentiate work according to each individual child’s needs
  • Be resilient, show enthusiasm and commitment
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Be a good communicator who can work closely with colleagues
  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Have good behaviour management skills
  • Be able to work on your own initiative
