St Andrew’s Healthcare is a charity providing specialist mental healthcare services. We work in partnership with a number of NHS, voluntary, educational and research organisations to deliver a range of specialist inpatient and community mental healthcare services, education and research that helps to improve the lives of people with complex mental health needs.

The role

The post holder will work as a member of the clinical team across the Birmingham division.

The post holder will offer assessment, consultation and short-term intervention for patients with problems around substance misuse, including those with co–occurring mental health and long term physical health conditions. The post holder will work in close collaboration with patients, families and other professionals and services involved the person’s care, including ward based MDT, occupational therapy, psychological, primary care, social work team, substance misuse services, the police and other criminal justice agencies.

The post holder will use an integrated motivational interviewing approach that is person-centred and holistic and considers the needs of others in the patient’s social system.

The post-holder will be required to conduct a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment that considers the relationship between the person’s mental and physical health, their social situation and their harmful use of drugs and alcohol in formulating person-centred and needs-based care plans.

The post-holder will be required to assess clinical risk and to devise risk management plans that competently address identified areas of risk and, in consultation with senior colleagues, deliver effective safeguarding for the individual and others around them.

The post holder will participate in clinical reviews of frequently attending patients, working with others to devise care management plans aimed at supporting patients to reduce their level of unscheduled hospital attendances and calls to emergency services.

To work closely with the police and community mental health teams as part of the STAH Birmingham team to support individuals with complex mental health and substance misuse needs who have also had contact with the criminal justice system.

The post-holder will take an active role in promoting and developing the service and engaging in quality initiatives to enhance care delivery, as part of Reach out collaborative along with STAH.
