Specifically looking for candidates who have excellent financial reporting and technical backgrounds, ideally within real estate.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Lead the preparation of all statutory financial statements (Group accounts and subsidiaries) under IFRS (or applicable GAAP).
- Oversee the preparation of quarterly (management accounts), half-yearly, and annual financial reports.
- Maintain and enhance financial reporting controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of reported figures.
- Review of the Interim Report and annual Report and Accounts, which involves proof reading, ensuring consistency throughout the reports and liaison with the auditors.
Team Leadership:
- Manage and develop the financial reporting team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Overall management of the financial reporting team consisting of five accountants.
- Provide technical guidance on complex accounting issues to team members and wider finance teams.
- Additional direct line management and guidance for the Accounts Payable Manager.
- Set objectives and performance goals aligned with departmental and company-wide priorities.
Technical Expertise and Advisory:
- Serve as the company's technical expert on accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 16 and IAS 40).
- Advise senior management on the financial implications of transactions, business strategies, and market developments. Including, where required, the preparation of completion accounts for corporate disposals.
- Review and interpret changes to accounting standards and their impact on the company's financial statements.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
- Partner with the Group Financial Controller to provide insights for decision-making and strategy formulation.
- Work closely with external auditors, ensuring a smooth audit process and addressing any issues raised.
- Collaborate with other finance teams (including property management finance), tax teams, and operational managers to streamline processes and enhance reporting.
- Preparation of various papers for the Audit Committee as required.
Other duties:
- Credit Committee - Assist the team in performing financial covenant reviews of prospective tenants, contractors and suppliers.
- Assist the Finance System Projects Team with the implementation of any new finance projects (including the new Finance System (ERP)).
- Other ad-hoc analysis or projects as and when required.
Process and System Improvement:
- Continuously improve financial reporting systems, processes, documentation, and policies to enhance efficiency and reduce reporting timelines.
- Ensure robust controls are in place for critical reporting cycles, including the use of advanced technology or software.
Knowledge, skills and experience required:
- A qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA) with extensive post-qualification experience.
- Significant experience in financial reporting for a listed company, ideally within the real estate sector.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, particularly standards relevant to real estate (e.g., IAS 40, IFRS 9, IFRS 16).
- Proven track record in leading financial reporting teams and delivering high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Advanced communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders.
- Proactive and innovative approach to improving processes and systems.
