Electrical Design Engineer

  • Annual Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE

We are seeking a skilled and ambitious Electrical Design Engineer to join our client’s team. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing AC electrical systems and components for various projects, with a focus on LV Power Distribution, industrial control panels, and busbar systems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Design and develop LV electrical systems for Electric Vehicle Charging applications, ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety regulations, and applicable standards, specifically BS EN 61439.
  • Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications using EPLAN Electric P8 and Pro Panel.
  • Select appropriate components, equipment, and materials for AC power systems, considering factors such as efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and production teams, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall project design.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate the viability and potential challenges of proposed electrical designs.
  • Support the procurement process by reviewing vendor proposals, assessing technical specifications, and providing guidance on equipment selection.
  • Oversee the manufacture and testing of AC electrical systems, troubleshooting any issues that arise and ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  • Conduct thorough documentation of electrical designs, including technical reports, operation manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to AC power systems, and apply this knowledge to enhance design practices.
  • Maintain regular contact with production staff to ensure all designs and product selection are suitable for manufacture and provide technical support as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • HND/HNC or Degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 and Pro Panel – Highly Desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ electrical engineering design experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of leading junior staff.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, and BS EN 61349, and the ability to ensure compliance with these standards in design activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work within specified timeframes.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks in a dynamic work environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
