We are recruiting for an all-through SEN school catering to children and young adults aged 4 to 19 years with a range of severe and complex medical needs, including physical disabilities, profound learning difficulties, and sensory impairments. The school provides a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment where every student is supported to reach their full potential.

Role Overview

As a SEN Student Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping our students thrive both academically and personally. You will provide 1:1 or small group support, ensuring their physical, emotional, and medical needs are met throughout the school day. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals to create a tailored support plan for each student, making a meaningful impact in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care, including feeding, toileting, and moving and handling where necessary
  • Assist students with severe and complex medical needs, working alongside healthcare professionals to administer medication and follow care plans
  • Support students in classroom activities, ensuring accessibility and inclusion in lessons
  • Help manage challenging behaviours, using positive behaviour support techniques
  • Encourage independence and social development, fostering a positive and supportive environment
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies
Requirements
  • It is essential that you have flexibility to be able to work full time if required
  • Previous experience working with children or young adults with SEN
  • A compassionate, patient, and positive attitude
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to undertake further training, including medical care and moving and handling
  • Essential: An updated child & adult enhanced DBS
  • Desirable: Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
