Position Summary: The Technical Buyer will play a crucial role in the procurement of specialised materials, equipment, and services essential for green energy projects. This position requires a strong understanding of technical specifications, supplier management, and cost optimisation. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional analytical skills, negotiation prowess, and a solid technical background to the table.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and procure technical equipment, materials, and services in alignment with project requirements and company standards.
- Evaluate supplier performance, negotiate contracts, and maintain robust relationships with vendors to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to understand technical specifications and project needs.
- Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and stay updated on industry trends, particularly within the green energy sector.
- Manage inventory levels and ensure optimal stock availability to prevent production delays.
- Prepare and process purchase orders, requisitions, and other procurement documents.
- Resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or payment with suppliers.
- Develop and implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, supplier performance, and market conditions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in technical procurement, preferably within the engineering or manufacturing sector.
- Strong understanding of technical specifications and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and documents.
- Proven track record of successful negotiation and supplier management.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
Desirable Skills:
- Professional certification such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or equivalent.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
