Job Advert: Mentors for SEMH School in WalsallStart Date: ASAP Contract: Full-Time, ongoing until end of July 2025Are you passionate about supporting young people and making a difference in their lives? We're looking for two dedicated mentors to join an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Walsall, working with children who need extra support to reach their full potential. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine desire to help students build confidence, overcome challenges, and succeed in a supportive, structured environment.As a mentor, you will provide direct support to students, guide them through social and emotional difficulties, and foster a positive mindset towards learning. Working 1:1 or in small groups, you will be a crucial part of each child's journey, helping to create a safe and encouraging space where they can thrive.Responsibilities

  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, building their confidence and motivation
  • Support students in managing their emotions and behaviours, using deescalation techniques and positive reinforcement
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored learning and behavioural strategies
  • Actively participate in the school community to foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere
  • Help students develop social skills, resilience, and self-management strategies

Ideal Candidate

  • A strong passion for working with children, especially those facing SEMH challenges
  • Experience in mentoring, youth work, or similar supportive roles (experience in SEMH or SEND settings is a plus)
  • Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and solution-oriented in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication skills and an adaptable approach to meeting each child's unique needs
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or a related field are an advantage but not essential.
