Shift Engineer

Main Purpose of Position

My client, an established food manufacturer in Plymouth, is looking for a Shift Engineer to enhance the efficiency of their factory operations through diligent maintenance and timely reactive repairs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Shift Engineer, your primary focus will be addressing the plant’s immediate engineering needs while balancing other repairs and projects. Your role will be crucial in maintaining the seamless operation of the production lines and facilities.

  • Reactive Maintenance: Promptly address any issues with plant equipment, services, and buildings, including fault finding and repairs.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance and monitoring to prevent breakdowns and ensure equipment longevity.
  • Line Improvements: Collaborate on developing and implementing enhancements to increase production efficiency.
  • Project Assistance: Support the installation and commissioning of new plant equipment and contribute to ongoing projects.
  • Record Keeping: Document all findings and maintenance activities to ensure transparency and continuity.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with team leaders and management to achieve targets related to safety, quality, output, efficiency, energy, and waste.
  • Budget Management: Assist in controlling departmental expenditures to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Flexibility: Cover for scheduled holidays, additional hours, absences, and emergency call-outs as needed.

Personal Qualities and Skills

  • Qualifications: Apprentice trained in a building trade or equivalent with an associated qualification.
  • Experience: Proven experience in an engineering role, ideally within a high-volume production environment.
  • Skills: Proficient in fault finding (electrical and mechanical), bench fitting, servicing, fabrication, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and installation.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

Benefits

  • X 3 12 hour shifts (mon-wed)
  • X 1 8 hour Sunday shift every 2 weeks
  • 10% premium
  • Quarterly bonus up to 8%
  • Salary £44,467 (inclusive of 10% bonus)
