We are excited to offer a full-time Trainee Emotional Support Teaching Assistant position at an inclusive and welcoming mainstream secondary school in Newbury. This role is perfect for someone who is eager to learn and grow in the field of education while making a positive impact on students’ emotional and academic development.

About the Role:

As a Trainee Emotional Support Teaching Assistant, you will support students aged 11-16 who require additional help with both their emotional and educational development. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will assist in creating a supportive and engaging environment that helps students build their confidence and stay motivated to learn. You’ll work alongside the school's Inclusion and Learning Support teams to support tailored interventions, providing one-on-one and small group support to ensure students' success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing emotional and academic support to students aged 11-16, focusing on those who need extra help with emotional engagement in their learning.
  • Support one-on-one and small group interventions to build students' confidence, resilience, and engagement.
  • Help students maintain emotional stability during lessons and manage any challenges or distractions they may face.
  • Work closely with teachers to help students participate fully in class and make academic progress.
  • Foster strong, positive relationships with students, creating a safe and encouraging learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to address the individual needs of each student.
  • Learn and contribute to the school’s approach to emotional and educational support, ensuring the well-being of all students.

The Ideal Candidate:

This role is perfect for someone who is eager to gain experience and develop a career in education, especially in supporting students with emotional and academic challenges. You do not need to have prior experience in this area but should possess the right qualities to thrive in this environment.

You should be:

  • Empathetic, with a genuine desire to help students overcome emotional challenges and engage in their learning.
  • Willing to learn, with an interest in gaining experience in supporting students in an educational setting.
  • Proactive and adaptable, able to assist in responding to the changing needs of students and provide tailored support.
  • Calm and patient, with the ability to offer a reassuring, supportive environment for students.
  • Good at building relationships with both students and colleagues, fostering trust and respect.
  • Available for full-time work, with the potential to grow and take on additional responsibilities.
