Job Opportunity: Principal Consultant - Built Heritage

Salary: £45,000 - £70,000, DOE
Location: Offices in Sussex/South East and North West, covering the whole UK
Type: Permanent, Full Time

Role Overview:
As a Principal Consultant, you will lead the built heritage team, managing projects and driving the strategic direction of the business. Your role will involve drafting, conducting research, providing expert advice, managing client and subcontractor relationships, attending meetings, and preparing planning appeals. In addition to managing key projects, you will mentor and develop junior team members, ensuring high standards of work and efficient delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage high-profile built heritage projects from inception through to delivery.
  • Provide expert advice on built heritage matters, including policy and legislation.
  • Prepare and submit planning appeals and reports for heritage-based developments.
  • Manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Research and provide insights on legislation, conservation guidelines, and relevant policies.
  • Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders to discuss project goals and objectives.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Archaeology, Architecture, Conservation, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK heritage policies, legislation, and the built heritage sector.
  • Proven experience in managing complex heritage projects.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A passion for heritage conservation and innovative problem-solving.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
