Role Overview The Power Electronics Engineer will play a key role in developing power electronics systems for electric motors and battery technologies. The role involves designing, simulating, testing, and optimizing power conversion circuits to achieve the highest levels of performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities: - Designing power electronic circuits, including inverters, converters, and motor drives
- Selecting and sizing components for power stages such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes, capacitors, and inductors
- Collaborating on the integration of battery management systems (BMS) with power electronics
- Design and develop power electronic controls for electric vehicle systems, including but not limited to: DC-DC converters up to 4 kW and three-phase motor inverters with voltages and power levels up to 800 V and 400 kW
- Develop hardware mixed-signal interfaces to control power systems
- Perform circuit analysis, simulation, and optimization to meet performance, reliability, and cost targets
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and design guidelines for electrical design and functional safety
- Build and test prototypes to validate design concepts and identify areas for improvement
- Collaborate with Mechanical/Software engineers to integrate electronic hardware into products
- Generate technical reports, design reviews, and presentations to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, test results, and project milestones
Qualifications & Experience Core Skills and Experience:
- Degree qualified or higher in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in power electronics and electronic Hardware design and product development
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in troubleshooting complex electronic systems
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., EMC, safety certifications)
- Ability to manage scheduled design activities to ensure on-time delivery
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with automotive development processes (V-Model)
- Knowledge of Field-Oriented Control (FOC) or Vector Control
- Knowledge of automotive communication systems, (CAN and J1939 protocols)
- Experience with meeting industry standards such as ISO 26262 and rail industry standards
- Experience in designing and working on electric vehicle systems, including but not limited to high-power electric motor drives, lithium-ion batteries, and embedded control electronics
- MI Level 4 High Voltage Training
