Notetaker - Northampton
Do you have a passion for creating accessible learning environments and empowering students with disabilities? We're seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Specialist Notetaker to provide vital support to students who require note-taking assistance.
The primary requirement of this support is to make a comprehensive set of notes to meet the needs of the student for access, review and revision purposes. The note-taker will make a comprehensive, although non-verbatim, typed record of the content of lectures, seminars, discussions, off-campus events etc. in the student's preferred style and format. The notes can be shared in real-time with the student so they can see them being taken as the lecture happens, or they can be provided as a set of notes after the lecture. The support worker will need to discuss with the student any requirements in terms of the format, font or size of the notes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To produce an accurate, typed record of lectures, seminars and discussions in the student's preferred format
- Notes should contain pertinent information from the session (and any questions and discussions if required) and may need to include diagrams or be referenced to any lecture handouts
- To be familiar with the university buildings and rooms
- To act in the best interests of students at all times whilst also working within the policies and procedures of the university
- To ensure student confidentiality, professionalism and respect at all times
- To act as an anonymous notetaking if this is preferred by the student, and to continually maintain this anonymity
- To maintain professional boundaries within the role at all times
Experience:
- Must hold a degree, equivalent qualification or be working towards a degree (in final years)
- Training of "Specialist Notetaking for Deaf or Visually Impaired Students" - accredited training to be provided by Randstad
- Completion of e-learning suite (provided by Randstad)
- Must complete a typing test to determine that the typing speed is appropriate for this role

Experience:
- Experience in notetaking or similar administration roles
- Experience of the Higher Education environment/experience
- Experience of supporting disabled adults
- Knowledge of the University campus
Competencies:
- Good understanding of the English Language
- Clear presentation of written work
- Ability to work independently if required
- Knowledge of the barriers that disabled people may experience in higher education
- Understanding of confidentiality issues and role boundaries
- Experience of working with disabled individuals is desirable
- Have awareness of Safeguarding and be suitable to work with learners 16+
