Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich opened in September 2009 and is part of the Outstanding Harris Federation. Harris Boys was judged to be an outstanding school by Ofsted in December 2011.

Academy Ethos

We encourage our students to be critical thinkers and promote these skills throughout the curriculum. We are currently looking to appoint an Art Technician to provide classroom and administrative support to the Subject Lead for Art.

We are looking for someone who will be actively involved in the growth and enhancement of our department. This includes supporting various activities such as trips, workshops and artist residencies, and your engagement will be instrumental in ensuring these initiatives are a success. Jeremy Deller visited recently, and work with local galleries such as Forma, 198 Gallery and the African Center are developing into exciting opportunities for collaboration.

The actual salary for this role will be £27,511 per annum (40 weeks per year, 37.5 hours per week).

As Art Technician, your role will include:

• Providing a quality technical service to the Art department and to pupils and staff
• Ensuring all equipment is prepared to the teacher's specifications
• Effective care and maintenance of all Art equipment
• Organisation, preparation, repair, cleaning, transport and collection of equipment and materials
• Ensuring materials are replenished in teaching area
• Assisting and supporting in practical lessons, and participating in enrichment activities as requested
• Understanding the Schemes of Work & syllabi of Art in order to prepare for practical lessons
• Preparation of Stock Orders
• Monitoring stock levels and expenditure
• General Departmental administration
• Participation in all appropriate INSET activities
• Ensuring full implementation of all Health and Safety regulations, including the safe and secure disposal of hazardous waste
• Organising the efficient storage and record keeping of all equipment
• Carrying out safety checks on Art equipment and recording faults and action taken
• Supporting with Digital Photography, Textiles and Ceramics requirements

We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following qualities:

• Proficiency with cameras: you should be able to assist and advise on best practices in both capturing and editing imagery using Photoshop
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently without constant oversight
• Initiative: you should be proactive, suggesting improvements, spotting potential problems before they arise, and bringing fresh ideas to the table
• Background in arts, ensuring you not only have the technical skills to support students if needed, but also the aesthetic understanding and appreciation that is paramount for our department
