We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join one of our core programme teams right at the heart of our business.

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £62,440 - £85,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Let us introduce the role
You will be leading an established Project Management team to deliver a portfolio of projects ranging in size from approx. £10k to £10Ms, providing appropriate Governance (including compliance and reporting) on behalf of one of our core programmes, thus enabling AWE's critical mission. In your role you will:

  • Lead and maintain motivation of an established Project Management team, to deliver a "portfolio" of projects ranging in size from approx. £10k to £10Ms, providing appropriate Governance (compliance and reporting) and supporting the Project Managers as required.
  • Line Manage a team of 6-10 Project Managers, including developing team members and managing secondments of individuals from other business areas.
  • On behalf of the Programme Manager, make project investment decisions, and provide appropriate governance to those projects through their lifecycle.
  • Lead, support, initiate, and where required govern, change against the Baseline.
  • Working with the broader programme team and stakeholders, lead, initiate and perform risk and opportunity identification and lead resolution of subsequent actions, including creation of additional projects where required.
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team of this programme, support colleagues and the broader mission, and deputise for the Programme Manager where reasonably requested.
  • The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs.

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • ·Demonstrable experience delivering technical projects within a highly regulated/defence industry would be beneficial, ideally with an engineering/science/technical background.
  • A good understanding of risk, and proactive risk management
  • Demonstrating excellent stakeholder management skills and natural ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships across all levels.
  • Skills to create, govern, and evolve all project documentation, including project management plans and supporting risks, assumptions, actions, issues & dependencies.
  • A Project Management practitioner qualification/membership or equivalent experience would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrable application of methods to track project deliverables including implementing key performance indicators and producing/reviewing project progress reports.
  • Ability to lead and initiate risk techniques to understand complex project risks and interdependencies with efficient mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Experience managing projects from concept to closure including the associated governance.
  • Dynamic and supportive approach to team management, encouraging and empowering team members to quickly adapt and respond to change and to adopt the company's vision.
  • Commercial aptitude, including experience of managing budgets.

Due to the sensitivity of information required to undertake this role, it should be assumed this role is wholly site based, at one of our AWE sites. Occasional, irregular, hybrid working may available for this role on an informal, non-contractual basis
