We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant to join our team. As an SEN Teaching Assistant in our school, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with diverse special educational needs. Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for students with SEN, promoting their emotional well-being and social development.
  • Adapt and differentiate instructional materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
  • Support students with their academic assignments, providing guidance, encouragement, and reinforcement of key concepts.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and techniques to support students in developing self-regulation and social skills.
  • Help with personal care needs and assistive technology, ensuring students' comfort, safety, and independence.
  • Regularly observe and assess student progress, recording and reporting observations to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and support staff, to facilitate a holistic approach to student support.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in SEN education.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for working with students with special educational needs and supporting their development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Basic understanding of various special educational needs and the ability to implement appropriate strategies and accommodations.
  • Knowledge of relevant assistive technology and resources to support students' learning and accessibility.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other professionals.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth.
  • Willingness to undergo necessary background checks and clearances.
