ASEND tuition supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don’t have a school place. We are looking for an SEN Tutor with Key Stage 2 experience to support an autistic pupil in Hayes to develop her language, literacy and communication.

What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Hayes, Hillingdon. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is an 11-year-old girl with autism and severe speech and language difficulties. She struggles with verbal communication but enjoys bouncing on a trampoline, finger painting, looking at books, and using her tablet. She is described as strong, clever, funny, and curious. Her mother's priorities are for her to work on her spelling, speech, and confidence levels. She enjoys colouring, reading, and manipulating situations to avoid doing work herself. She enjoys colouring, reading, and manipulating situations to avoid doing work herself. The aim of tutoring will be to help improve her spelling, speech, and confidence.

She requires a play-based, child-led curriculum delivered by an experienced and ASD-aware tutor. The tutor will need to employ a play-based approach and ensure she knows what to expect to engage her in learning.

About you:

  • You’ll have some experience with SEN: Autism, Speech and Language delays

  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way

  • You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement

  • You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan

  • Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning

  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils

  • Use a person-centred approach in their work

  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do

  • Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
