"We’re not run by Accountant’s here, nobody’s looking to cut costs at every opportunity - everything we do is in our clients’ best interests. We’re talking about the biggest firms in the country here, they expect no less", says the Director of this global broking house’s prestigious Major Accounts Division. Controlling some of the most coveted accounts in the country, including a large portion of the FTSE100 and many of the country’s largest privately-owned businesses, this team really are market-leaders when it comes to providing innovative insurance and risk management solutions to blue-chip clientele.
Here, you will be joining arguably the most gifted team of corporate insurance practitioners in the country who have joined this Division from a range of backgrounds - some 'home grown’, others from the client-side having worked in-house for corporate giants, and those having transitioned from insurance companies. Regardless of their introduction to the team, they are renowned for their well-honed technical skills, strong focus on delivering exceptional client-outcomes, and their enthusiasm for working to shared goals and objectives. This is perhaps best demonstrated by this Division achieving exceptionally high scores in client and team satisfaction surveys, as well as the plethora of awards it wins. Indeed, it has recently obtained the ServiceMark accreditation for its long-term embedded client service strategy - achieving double the score of the insurance industry average in doing so!
Here, you will inherit a portfolio of trophy accounts, generating total brokerage income approaching £1,000,000. Individual accounts generate fees in excess of £150,000 and clients are from a range of industry sectors including well-known supermarkets (with associated distribution risks), manufacturers of cutting-edge technology, vast property portfolios, and household name utility companies. Dealing with sophisticated insurance buyers, you will be tasked in building a detailed understanding of your clients, the nuances of their businesses, and the myriad of risks that they face. You will endeavour to ensure that their insurance programmes continue to offer robust coverage in line with their appetite for self-insurance. Where gaps in cover exist, you will design innovative solutions to mitigate these. The focus of this role is very much on the management of existing clients, and this division has a separate team responsible for securing new business - although you may be able to attend pitches to add a sense of gravitas and technical 'fire power’. In addition to overseeing the successful management of your portfolio, you will, on occasion, work on projects for those clients who use other brokers but want to lean on this division’s abilities for specialist projects, such as risk consulting and strategic guidance.
All of your accounts will benefit from a dedicated support team of Handlers, Brokers and Claims Executives etc, whose activities you will coordinate. You will also be able to call upon a vast array of specialist teams based across the globe, who can give specialist help on specific lines and services such as Credit Insurance, Employee Benefits, Financial Lines or Cyber, for example.
This role has arisen due to the incumbent Account Director being promoted to a Strategic Relationship Director style role, so you will benefit from a detailed, warm handover of clients - without fear of them being targeted by an ex-colleague when out of covenant!
Whist we welcome applications from candidates from all insurance disciplines (broking, underwriting, 'inhouse’ etc.), it is essential that you have detailed knowledge of all common commercial covers. This should include dealing with complex, corporate clients, together with a demonstrable track record of building meaningful relationships with educated, highly sophisticated insurance buyers. You must be highly polished, able to get on with people from all walks of life, and an excellent company ambassador who can 'front’ relationships with some of the country’s biggest companies. You should also possess a natural curiosity and keenness to understand the underlying issues that make a business tick, and the potential threats in sectors that your clients operate in.
Whilst you will be welcome to work from an office most days, this is a remote position where you will only be expected to attend a regional office weekly, with additional client visits on top, as required.
In return, you will receive a generous basic salary that is entirely negotiable, depending on experience. You will also receive a fantastic flexible benefits package (including a market-leading pension arrangement) that can be tweaked to suit your personal circumstances. In addition, this role carries a bonus of 20-30% of your salary, and this is bolstered by extra bonuses for cross / upselling ancillary lines and services, and introducing business to other parts of the company etc.
