The Compliance Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of a wealth management firm while ensuring compliance with the FCA regulations and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
This role requires a strong understanding of financial services, operational efficiency, risk management, and compliance procedures in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Lead the compliance function, ensuring the firm adheres to FCA regulations and all other relevant laws, rules, and standards (such as MiFID II, GDPR, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Consumer Duty (CD).
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust compliance framework, identifying and managing compliance risks.
- Oversee internal compliance audits and reviews to ensure operational activities are aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the firm's processes are aligned with FCA and SEC conduct of business rules, anti-money laundering (AML) policies, and customer protection standards.
- Stay current with regulatory changes, assess their impact on the firm's operations, and lead the firm's response to any new compliance obligations.
- Provide advice to senior management on compliance and regulatory issues, including the impact of emerging regulatory changes.
- Operations Management:
- Oversee and manage the operational activities of the wealth management firm, including client onboarding, trade execution, portfolio management systems, and reporting processes.
- Ensure the firm's operations are efficient, cost-effective, and scalable, optimizing processes and systems to improve productivity.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard the firm's integrity, protect clients' assets, and ensure smooth execution of transactions.
- Supervise the back-office functions, including finance, office management, legal and compliance.
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of compliance officers, operational staff, and other key personnel, providing coaching, development, and performance management.
- Promote a culture of regulatory and operational excellence across the organization.
- Collaborate with senior management to drive business objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance is embedded in all activities.
- Coordinate with other departments, including legal, risk, IT, and investment teams, to ensure integrated and seamless operations.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain and oversee compliance and operational records, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with FCA reporting requirements.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to the FCA and other relevant authorities, ensuring that reporting deadlines are met.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations and compliance activities, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Client Interaction:
- Work closely with the client-facing teams to ensure that client-related activities (e.g., investment transactions, account management) comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Address client concerns related to operational or compliance matters, ensuring high standards of service and communication.
- Business Continuity & Crisis Management:
- Develop and implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans to minimize operational disruptions in case of unforeseen events.
- Provide leadership and crisis management expertise in situations involving compliance breaches or operational failures.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Significant experience in compliance within an FCA-regulated wealth management firm.
- In-depth knowledge of FCA regulations and financial services compliance requirements (e.g., MiFID II, AML, CD).
- Strong understanding of wealth management products, services, and investment strategies.
