As part of our growing team, we are looking for a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to support our students and contribute to their educational journey.
The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other school staff to support students with a wide range of learning disabilities and developmental needs. You will assist in delivering tailored support for students, helping them engage with the curriculum, and providing emotional and behavioural support when needed. Your role will be crucial in ensuring that students have the tools, guidance, and encouragement they need to thrive in their learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual or small group support for students with various special educational needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language delays, and Moderate Learning Difficulties.
- Assist with personal care routines and daily living activities as required, ensuring students' dignity and well-being at all times.
- Support students in both classroom-based and outdoor learning activities, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
- Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to the monitoring and reporting of student progress.
- Provide behavioural and emotional support to help students manage their emotions and interactions with peers.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure that students' needs are met effectively and appropriately.
- Promote a positive and nurturing environment where students can build self-esteem and develop social skills.
- Support students with communication needs, using alternative communication methods where appropriate (e.g., Makaton, PECS, etc.).
- Attend meetings, reviews, and training as required to support professional development.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about working with children with special educational needs.
- Empathetic, patient, and able to build trusting relationships with students.
- Strong in communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible and adaptable in meeting the diverse needs of our students.
- Committed to providing high-quality, child-centred support.
- Ideally, you will have previous experience working with children or adults with SEN, though this is not essential.
- A proactive and motivated individual with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent (or working towards).
- Experience working in a school or care setting with children or adults with special educational needs.
- Knowledge of or training in specific SEND areas, such as autism, ADHD, Makaton, or PECS (desirable but not essential).
- First Aid training (desirable but not essential).
